It’s been years since I went on a roller coaster. So on Friday when we took a trip up to Great America (thanks DB!) in Santa Clara, I was more than excited. I had a fantastic time on a few rides, playing games to win prizes, sightseeing, taking pictures, and having a good time.
We got to Santa Clara at 11am. And it was HOT! I almost wore pants because I thought I would get cold, and I’m glad I didn’t because it was hot! My sister ended up wearing jeans and we were joking with her saying “We are getting hotter just looking at you wearing pants.” Haha. The first ride we went on was called “The Grizzly” and its the wooden roller coaster. It was fun! The good thing about going during a weekday is the lines are SHORT. It was amazing. The longest line we were in the entire trip was probably only 25 minutes.
We walked around a lot and stopped by some games and had our boyfriends try and win us stuffed animals. My sister desperately wanted this enormous Pug stuffed animal but the games were of course made for you not to win easily. We went on a couple more rides, and there was one called “Flight Deck” which was a roller coaster that got me an extreme headache, which never happened to me before on a roller coaster. We all ate ‘Dippin Dots’ which was an ice cream in tiny little balls that melted, they were ‘ok’ but everyone else seemed to love them haha.
My favorite ride of the day was “Psycho Mouse” roller coaster. It had really sharp turns and felt like you were going to fall off, but it was so fun! We left the park around 7pm! It was a long exhausting day but it was well worth it. Afterwards we drove 20min to Campbell to my mom’s house and stayed the night there.
That night we see online that two people were injured at Great America an hour after we left! And get this…it was on ‘Flight Deck’ roller coaster, the one I hated that got me a headache. Apparently a worker tried to retrieve a dropped cell phone and a passenger on the ride accidentally hit his head with his hand while the ride was in motion. They were both sent to the hospital. Also, I never knew a man was actually killed from that same ride back in 1998 when it was called ‘Top Gun.’ He was in a restricted area trying to retrieve his wife’s hat when the ride swooped in on him and a girl’s leg snapped his neck. In my opinion that ride should be taken down, it wasn’t even fun haha.
Now let’s talk attire. The weather was almost 90 degrees which is pretty hot for some bay area weather! I’m glad I ended up wearing a black crop top tee with cute lightweight acid wash overall shorts (Shortalls) I got from DD’s. To be comfy I paired it with some Nike Orive athletic shoes. I didn’t want to wear any jewelry or anything out there since I knew I would be going on some crazy rides. I felt comfortable the entire day (besides it being hot) and made the correct choice in attire!
